Figure
Forms in the Desert |
Check out these artistic shaped rocks found in Johnson Valley and
Joshua Tree National Park, California. Here is what looks like an
Old Man's Skull
resting at daybreak at one of the foothills of these rock pile
mountains in Johnson Valley. He's even got the rounded wide lips
below.
Johnson Valley is a great place to ride your
off-road vehicles and be able to see the beauty of these
sculpture-like forms at the same time. You can click the horizontal
landscape pictures
here for wallpaper size. These rocks have incredible texture to
them.
Some of these rocks, the natural wind has
hollowed out. Others break in an artistic manner when they fall; and
still others may have had a human touch to them.
This
one below that has a hollowed out look, has a large nose and a
fluffy goatee type beard, or some kind of grass he's chewing on in
the rock quarry area, where it is said counter tops were made from
an excavation there once.
Talk about still life and head portraits,
these skulls would be the coolest subject other than boring fruit in
a basket to portray in a piece of artwork.
Just North of Palm Springs, Joshua Tree
National Park also has these amazing figure-shaped rocks. This one
here has an incredible mouth, and frog-shaped look. It is a wonder
how the wind blows holes even through hard rock.

Joshua Tree also has a Skull Rock (on the
left below) that can be found either from the road side, or a small
hike from a camp site nearby. Both Joshua Tree and Johnson Valley
have camping. Joshua Tree's campsite spaces will fill up though. On
the right is a face that just looks clobbered. Poor guy. It's on the
way to Barker Dam within the park.
