About
by Ruth Collis
I love exploring all the possibilities a medium can do, and thick acrylics has continued to amaze me more and more over the years. I realize I'm going against all odds in not sticking to one style to become known as doing that one thing, but when you see all the wonders I have discovered that are shown on this website, why live in the same mundane style when there's so many exciting discoveries to be found?!
I am not inspired by other past artists really, but by what products the paint manufacturers of today make and their continual refinement of them that aids more capabilities, or a neat tool that creates a fun effect, and common every day objects found around you, that mimic some shape, color, or idea that turns into great art through my eyes. I often wear a particular set of sunglasses so to speak (say thick paint sunglasses) that when put on, all of life seen through them, continually shows new ideas I must try to create (like a 3-D leaf, sea anemone, or pipe coral).
Imagine all these paintings that you see here, never existing because I had to stick to one medium or art style of painting... To get to know me and what it is I do, you can always count on something out of the ordinary with materials used and subject matter, or an incredible technique, but most of all, TEXTURE that can only be found in an original acrylic from me, Ruth Collis.
I also am happiest making something fun up, that results in a somewhat abstract style, than doing realistic subject matter. There are a hundred thousand artists who can replicate a cat in exact detail, but where have you seen the wonders of paint so thick it turns into sculpture? Where have you seen paint that looks like candy or so transparent as well as being thick, it looks like glass? So flexible you can roll it into shapes? So versatile you can cut it, braid it, squish, squeeze, or swirl it, or use itself as a palette built up to use over again as texture in the art? That's not even getting into paint that GLOWS! If you want the most talked about, unique art ever seen in history, here it is... the amazing wonders of thick acrylic paint.
