Captured paintskin from the palette. Sometimes as Ruth is swirling the brush around on the palette, unintended shapes will appear that can be transferred to a whole new painting, such as in this case.

Excess palette paint also made these swirls as Ruth was wondering what to do with the extra paint, then after forming easy roses with swirls, she filled in the rest of the painting.

Background has a look very much like oils.

A rustic red-brown was used to make the stems look authentic and bring out the dimension already there in the 3-D stems & leaves.

Painting is loaded with rich impasto texture.
